THE SIGN

“When you see a sign, don’t ignore it. Follow where it leads.” (Unknown Quote)

In the early 1990’s I worked for an accounting firm who targeted small to mid-size companies. One of the firm’s newest consulting services targeted clients who needed human resources assistance. I was a part of this branch of the firm.

Servicing our clients took me all over the state, many times to small cities that I never knew existed. However, one of the companies I was assigned to help was located in southern Indiana. The roads that I had to travel on were typically two-lane roads, winding at times, and they were not lacking in steep inclines and curvy declines. As I young boy, as I recall, my father took this seemingly out-of-the way route to get to the town in which I was born. Perhaps he did it to entertain the four children as we sat in the crowded back seat of our non-air-conditioned vehicle. As we traveled, I loved seeing the little churches located in the country. Some of them were close enough to the road that you could see the church signs and often they had clever sayings posted with removable black magnetic letters.

Those signs were interesting, but last Saturday I saw the best church sign ever on a busy thoroughfare on the westside of Indianapolis. It read as follows, speaking specifically and strategically to the passerby that was waiting for some sign that would signal that it was time for them to come to or comeback to church, “THIS IS YOUR SIGN! GO TO CHURCH!”

I know this is Tuesday morning, but this is not too only intended to remind you to go to church this coming Sunday. Yet, if you are one who has been looking for a sign, you just read it: “GO TO CHURCH!” Now, if you did not need to be reminded via the sign, forward this meditation to someone you know who has drifted away from church and may possibly be looking for some sign that will influence then to come back to their local church or some local church where the word of God is taught and preached. Do some personal evangelism. Be blessed!

“Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, ‘What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet[c] in the Kingdom of God!’ Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ But they all began making excuses. One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’  The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.’” (Luke 14:15-23 NLT Version)
