“Though I have many things to write to you, I do not want to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, so that your joy may be made complete.” (2 John 1:12 NASB)
There is a faithful young lady in our church who wears many hats; call them “church hats” if you will. Since the pandemic, she’s been our featured soloist or lead singer more than any other choir member. She serves as the Superintendent of Sunday School and even though we are not meeting during the crisis, she keeps in touch with our youth and even gives them teaching assignments to fill the five minute Teaching Emphasis during our Sunday morning worship service. She has their growth and development in mind. They are not forgotten. This same young lady serves as a counter, helping our Trustees open tightly sealed envelopes to tally the tithes and offerings given cheerfully by our members. She has been a Sunday School Teacher for years, handpicked by yours truly to be an Assistant Teacher initially. But that supportive role did not last long. She quickly became the lead teacher. She’s a caretaker in her home, cares for others outside of her home, and she is not careless in rightfully dividing the word of truth. She has not only helped others clean up the mess in their lives, but she has helped clean the church edifice as well. Like I said, she wears many “church hats.” Daily she sends me an excerpt from a blog she has been contributing to for a publication, at least for the last four years, to make sure she encourages her pastor. She has the gift of expressing a deep thought with a small number of words; something I’m still working on. Now, keeping in mind, “To Do Is to Learn,” as was communicated in the meditation this past Friday, and the fact that we covered the entire book of 2 John on Thursday night during one of our weekly Victory Classes (Bible Study), you can understand why I decided to make her my first guest author. It comes from 2 John 1:12, our opening verse above. Here are her words, concise and correct, certainly most appropriate for a Sunday morning while we come into the special presence of the Lord and experience one of the most primary ways we can experience being face to face with God, listening to His sent word. The faithful young lady wrote: “Many things may change how we communicate to each other. But nothing replaces face-to face communication with each other.” She signed this mini, yet meaningful, thought provoking message with the following: “#wearebettertogether”. Read the opening verse again. Read her words again too! Now meditate on what God is saying to you before you head to worship. Think about the context of the text above and the timing by which she sent out her words from her heart. Now, go enjoy the special presence of the Lord! Afterwards, make sure you practice “To Do Is to Learn” by using the gifts you have from the Lord. Be blessed!
