I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.  Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the Lord.”  (I Chronicles 16:35 NIV)

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to praise Him right now!  He woke me up this morning and started me on my way!  I don’t know about you, but He has been too good for me to keep my mouth shut!  True for you too?

You have heard that phrase a million times in your life as a churchgoer, “I don’t know about you…”  I don’t know if people in the pew hear the sent message all the time, although I hope they do.  But one thing I know for sure, they hear the repetitive phrases such as the one in our title.  And then you can add such phrases such as, “You want to know something?” and “Am I right about it?” and of course, “I’m almost done!”  The latter phrase is expressed often after the first point in the sermon has been and there are at least two more points are coming.

I digressed again, didn’t I?  You probably are borrowing another phrase to describe my digression, “Won’t he do it?”  Well, let’s get back from my detour; get back on track.  The use of the phrase “I don’t know about you” is used by the preacher to help the parishioner personalize a proclaimed truth.  As an embedded exercise, let me make some statements about my commitments today and help you personalize them.

Today I’m going to be better today than yesterday!  “I don’t know about you!”  I’m going to get off to a good start this morning!  “I don’t know about you!”  I’m going to let my light shine and be the salt of the earth!  “I don’t know about you!”  I am not going to worry about today or tomorrow.  God’s got me!  “I don’t know about you!”  I’m not going to lean on my own understanding!  I’m going to see what God has to say about it!  “I don’t know about you!”

I feel like thanking God right now, don’t have to wait until the day comes to an end!  “I don’t know about you!”  Have a great Thursday!  “I don’t know about you,” but I am confident I will, come what may!  Be blessed!
