I receive an email, perhaps daily, entitled “Interesting Words.” One day last week the word for the day was insouciance. It was indeed an interesting word. Perhaps I am not as well versed in the English language as you, and maybe my vocabulary is not as extensive as yours. So, while I normally do not even open the daily email, on that particular day I did and I was introduced to the word, “insouciance.” The definition provided in the unsolicited email said that insouciance means “a causal lack of concern, indifference.” When you check this word on your computer, looking for synonyms, you will find such words as unconcern, indifference, and detachment.
This word stayed on my mind because believers need to keep in mind that the Word of God reveals that we should not demonstrate insouciance as it applies to our prayer life, our pursuit of wisdom, our prescription not to forsake the assembly of the saints, as well as our need to persistently walk by faith and therefore, we will project our status as the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
Evaluate yourself and determine if there is an area or areas of your life as a believer where insouciance can be applied. If you identify any area, write down an action plan that will facilitate improvement and a negating of this word as it might apply to being one of His disciples. Don’t rush through your evaluation and make sure you do it with integrity. As a result, you will be better and your influence on the lost, those who have let go and are drifting away, and the lives of others in the church will be better. They will want to the same thing that you shall do. What exactly would that be? I’ll tell you! I’m glad you asked! Here’s the answer: Eliminate insouciance so it cannot be a fitting description of your life as a follower of Jesus Christ. Have a great day! Be concerned! Don’t be indifferent! Don’t be detached!
