“We praise you, Lord God! You treat us with kindness day after day, and you rescue us.” (Psalm 68:19 CEV)
I finally surrendered to the fact that you have to put gas in your vehicle occasionally and I stopped at a local gas station to fill up. Another individual, a young man, drives up to the pump on adjacent to the one I was using. He nods his head as if to say hello. I respond by speaking, mumbling muffled words through my mask, “Good morning!” He replies back, “What’s so good about it?”
I was tempted to ignore his response, but I sensed he was not a person filled with hostility, but he was just a person who needed help to understand that “It’s a good day!” So I did not ignore his response and instinctively and unconsciously went into a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. type oratory speech mode.
This is what I said to the young man. “Even though adversity has seized some of the advantages we have advanced to enjoy, ‘It’s a good day.” “Although a plague of annoying darkness is covering our nation, the light of the sun has never ceased to shine through. You just have to look for the brightness that exist and that is to come. ‘It’s a good day.’” I continue and the character of that more famous King continues to surface. “Turmoil threatens a peaceful transition of power in our capital, but that can not prohibit the peace from flowing down like a rambunctious river from the place where Sovereign God rules forever. ‘It’s a good day.’” I start thinking I should save this stuff for tomorrow’s sermon, but I cannot stop. “Hatred may have come out from its hiding places, but heaven speaks out through a Divine megaphone, ‘Love one another.’ ‘It’s a good day!’“ “Disease is rampant, death counts are rising but the destiny for believers, definitely better, still awaits us. ‘It’s a good day!’” “Waves of satanic and secular influence are crashing all over the shores of our society, but the saved; the sanctified folks shall not be moved! ‘It’s a good day.’” “Doors may be closed in our face, but keep moving looking for the next door that has your name on it. Be optimistic! You will get there in a new season of your life that is schedule just for you. ‘It’s a good day.’”
I hear the clicking sound that indicates the young man’s tank is full. He may have been glad that my monologue had to end. I’m not sure if I really impacted him. But then, suddenly after he had replaced the nozzle of the pump into its docking place and before he got in his car, he nodded his head again and spoke aloud this time, “Have a good day!” You have one too my friend, including worshipping face-to face or virtually. It is a good day! Be blessed!
