“Let’s have church! Let’s join the heavenly sound! There’s nothing like Your presence when the praise breaks out. Let’s have church! Let’s tear the roof off of this house cause anything can happen when the praise breaks out. Let’s have church!” (Excerpt from song by Thrive Worship)
Do you remember anything special about Sunday mornings in your past? I do! Of course, I had to deliver the Sunday edition of the local newspaper. That was during the time when Sunday papers were as thick as a 1.5-inch book! Then, back in the past, after delivering papers before the rooster crowed, I came home, washed up, and rushed downstairs to eat a family breakfast that would compete with the variety of food served at a restaurant morning buffet. The aroma filled the house. Back in the day, no one turned on the news, personal computers, cell phones, or electronic tablets for they had not been invented, not yet. Now, if your family had a record player, you would hear classical gospel music filling the air with edifying words, the “old school” type of gospel, and not the type which was hard to distinguish from the music that was played at the parties and dances the night before.
Mom and Dad would be the first one’s dressed. Mom protected her attire by wearing a lightweight duster or a robe made of thin material. Afterall, she did double duty by making sure the meal she prepared on Saturday was ready to be warmed up later that day. Sunday, in the past, there were two meals, not three. There were breakfast and dinner that was served in early afternoon. There was no skipping meals because the next meal was not scheduled until Monday morning. The exceptions was a small bowl of popcorn was you watch Disney or Ed Sullivan.
The most memorable memory about Sunday mornings in most of our homes was heading off to Sunday School and morning worship service. I can still hear my dad saying, “Time to go! Let’s get in the car.” No one was allowed to stay at home. And guess what? Family interaction and peace in the home started on Sunday and a lot of that had to do with church.
You may think I was just rambling or reminiscing, but if you did it is regretful that you forgot the title above, “Let’s Do It Again!” Let’s do what we used to do on Sundays, including tomorrow, especially what I described in the paragraph above. I’m hoping you respond positively because you will be blessed by the word of God and the fellowship that takes place in the assembly of the saints. I’m so positive that you will do it again that I am going to end by saying, “Enjoy church tomorrow, you and your whole family!” Don’t send the children, take them and stay their making it a family affair. Be blessed!
“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122:1 KJV)
Committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
Let’s do it again is a great reminder for everyone to get to church on Sunday. The activities of the day should always begin with praise and worship to the Lord.
SO true, Dr. King! I like how you did not limit it to one day too! Be blessed!
