MULTITASKING

Most of us think of multitasking as the ability to simultaneously perform more than one task at the same time. Here is what NetPsychology has to say about multitasking in a 2025 publication: “The multitasking myth is the widespread belief that humans can successfully perform multiple cognitively demanding tasks simultaneously with equal effectiveness. Scientific research conclusively demonstrates this is false: what we call “multitasking” is actually rapid task-switching, where our brain toggles between activities—each switch incurring cognitive costs that reduce productivity by up to 40% and increase error rates.”

One of the old devotional songs we still sing in our churches has lyrics that show that multitasking is definitely possible and it should be desirable when it comes to our dedicated Christian walk. You will recognize the words easily! “Walking and talking with my mind, stayed on Jesus.” We cannot argue with that stance. But can we back it up with scripture?

I think it can? Consider the familiar verses below from God’s profitable word. Have a great day! Multitask in a mighty Christian way! Be blessed!

“…and run with endurance the race set out for us, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1b-2 New English Translation)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King

  1. This is a new perspective on multi-tasking that is not heard often. I’ve recently read the part of increased probability for errors. The scripture tells a different story. I never thought of that scripture in that way. I’m going to keep on walking and talking with the Lord, and run the race while keeping my eyes on Jesus. I’m multitasking…. Smile!

  2. Thats interesting about task switching. It makes a lot of sense when you consider we can’t be in two places at the same time. Thank you for sharing! Keeping my mind Christ centered and God focused! Best multitasking we can do!

  3. Thanks for letting me know I can multi task. When I was working they
Would give me two or three jobs to handle, I thought something was
Wrong with me cause I could hardly manage two jobs when the third
Was given I said I can’t do it. But as a Christian I can walk and talk with my mind stayed on Jesus. I can block out the noise of the world and hear the Lord speaking to me
Thank you for clarifying that for me.
    Have a blessed day.

    1. Yes ma’am, Deaconess! You can multitask walking and talking with your mind stayed on Jesus! Good advice about blocking out the noise! Be blessed!
