“So by my woes to be, nearer, my God, to Thee; nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee. Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee; nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee.” (Excerpt from hymn written by Sarah Flower Adams in 1841)
This is your Sunday Share meditation. Pastor M.R. King preached from Luke 10:38-42, using as a subject, “Are You in Position?” When you check out the sermon on the Salt Of The Earth (Indianapolis) Facebook or YouTube page, you will be blessed with an edifying word. Now, what I just said was not a promotional statement, but it was a promise sentence. After you read it, you will find yourself more cognizant of how you must move a little nearer to the Son of God, regardless of your years of being a Christian or your numerous days of being committed to the climb. As Pastor said, “Life can be demanding and it can impact our priorities.” Life is filled with distractions. The challenge for you and me is to consciously make a decision to disregard the distractions and devote time to sitting at the feet of Jesus. By doing so, we will consequently find ourselves in a right and better position in life. My friend, get nearer to Jesus, God in the flesh, and when you do, His Word will find you. Jesus will teach you and take you to higher heights as you press upward, toward the mark of your higher calling in Christ Jesus. I beseech you! Listen to the sermon! You will be glad you did! As Pastor often says when he stands to proclaim truth from the Word of God, “I promise you!”
Before you go to Sunday’s message, let me use an analogy. Five players are on the youth basketball court facing their opponent. Seven players are sitting on the bench, hoping to get in the game. The worst place to sit on the bench is at the end, The worst position to be in on the bench is sitting back and looking disinterested. Your best chance as a benchwarmer to get in the game often depends on your position. The benchwarmer knows that this is true. That’s why at times, you see players trying to get the seats on the bench that are positioned closer to the coach after a timeout. Also, you know I’m telling the truth, during the game, you will see the players on the bench, scooting up on their seat, in order that when the coach looks down for a substitute, the players will be in a position to be seen and summoned to come sit by the coach, ready to get in the game. The benchwarmers are devoted to the game, but at certain times, distractions like the crowd or inner thoughts supersedes their devotion for the game.
In life, our devotion to the Lord is imperative. Being nearer to Him will ensure that we don’t miss our moments to be undeniably “in the game,” and able to make a contribution to the kingdom as one of His disciples. Read Sunday’s text below. See the differing position of Mary and Martha. Then go find the Pastor’s preached Word and be equipped to avoid the distractions in life, distractions that lead to frustrations, and frustrations that lead to a drifting away from our commitments. For sure, you don’t want to drift away from your commitment to be one of Christ’s disciples, impacting self and so many others. Have a great day! Be blessed!
“Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. And she had a sister called Mary, who was also seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving by myself? Then tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Like 10:38-42 NASB)
Committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles… fixing our eyes on Jesus”—Remove distractions to run the spiritual race. Hebrews 12:1-2 Be Blessed
Thanks, LaTanza for sharing that verse with all who read comments. We all need to do just as the verse says…fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. Be blessed!
As the Lord knows our hearts, He also knows our struggles. Life is filled with distractions and my challenge is to fight the temptation to be pulled in the direction of those distractions I want to consciously make the decision to disregard the distractions and devote time to sitting at the feet of Jesus. My heart and spirit are willing and I have decided to follow Jesus. I am not completely there yet. I still allow myself to be pulled away. I will keep striving for a closer walk to be nearer to my Lord and sit at His feet.
Pray in the words of the hymn composer, “Just a closer walk with Thee! Grant it Jesus if you please. I’ll be satisfied as long, as I walk, let me walk close to Thee.” Be blessed!
Bless you for your response! They are always beneficial and reinforcing!
