A faithful member of a local church was always amenable and available when a volunteer was needed to pick someone up for church. This faithful member thrived on punctuality, a trait he picked up from his parents who believed that early was on time and on time was late.
One Sunday morning, not that long ago, the faithful member received a call from the pastor of his church. The pastor asked him if he would pick up another member, one who had been attending the church for years, because the member had car problems. The faithful member responded, “No problem!” He got the address and phone number of the member needing the ride. He called and stated what time that he would show up, ensuring it was early enough to allow plenty of time make it to Sunday School on time. Punctuality was important to this man.
When he got to the house, arriving at the time he said he would be there, he called the member needing the ride and let the member know he was outside. The member sticks a hand outside the door and says, “I’ll be out in a minute. I have to find my bible.” The clock keeps ticking and ticking and ticking. Obviously, the member was still searching for the bible that seemed to somehow go into hiding all by itself. Ten minutes later, the member comes out, looking frustrated and being apologetic. The bible was never found. When they got to church, finally, late for Sunday School, the member went to her usual pew and as they say, “lo and behold,” there was the bible.
My message to you this morning: That’s something that should never happen. You should always know where your bible is in your house. It should be exactly where you read it the day or night before. The only way that the same thing that happened with the member could happen to you is if you did not read your bible every day or at the least a few times during the week. Bibles are not just a Sunday accessory.
Again, I say, not being able to find your bible is something that should never happen. Be like the newborn baby that desires sincere milk every day. Share this with someone who needs to know about this “something that should never happen.” Be blessed!
