THE REPURPOSED

This is your Monday Short meditation! It has to do with repurposing. Let’s say that you drive through a neighborhood that you lived near or drove through frequently in the distant past. As you did, you saw “The Repurposed.” Yes, vacated stores that once thrived with a steady flow of customers had been abandoned because of retail related reasons, but those stores have been repurposed as start-up churches; new local churches that are temporarily using the vacated building while their building fund allows them to build a new worship facility. And what about the local parks where basketball courts attracted people from all over the Midwest, youth and young adults who went on to professional fame, but now that same space has join the ranks of “The Repurposed” and that property is now occupied by seldom used outdoor volleyball courts.  “The Repurposed,” sticking with the title, can be seen in several other places. For instance, there is the old bike that has been repurposed to be a plant holder in the home. There are the circular tabletops that have been painted and used as wall hangings. What about grandma’s sewing machine table that is now used as a desk. “The Repurposed” includes classical books that were once sold for reading, but after being picked up at the thrift store, they are used as part of a home décor motif.

“The Repurposed” is seen in the Bible too! Fishermen became followers of Christ. A lady who met Jesus at a well in Samaria, she had five husbands and was living with someone who was not her husband when she met Jesus, yet after a little talk with Jesus she went from being a prospect to a perfect witness, going to tell the men in the city about Jesus. How about the Apostle Paul, the same energy, same faithfulness, and same relentless character he displayed in carrying out his duty to persecute the early church, all that was repurposed by the Christ who met him on the Damascus Road. There are more examples, and you are probably thinking about them now. Good for you!

I tried to make this “short,” but I have to remind you that “The Repurposed” terminology can be applied to you too! You were reeling in sin, but because of the grace of God, your reversed the direction you were traveling, stopped moving away from God and moved closer to Him, and you started reveling in righteousness, your mind fill with reverence for the Almighty. Yes, you were no longer the same after your encounter with Jesus. Your talent became a gift with help of the Holy Spirit. Your desire to gain knowledge became repurposed after you came to know Christ, because it was then that you became interested in gaining knowledge and wisdom from our Maker. Your whole life was changed so you be used to fulfill the purpose that God has specifically for you. You have experienced “The Repurposed.” Remember that every day of this new week. Live out your new purpose. Let your living be a song sings out without moving your lips, “I am determined to follow Jesus, not turning back, no turning back.” Have a great day, my friend! Be blessed!

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 NIV)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
