“And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.” (John 8:22-25 English Standard Version)
I know you are familiar with the hymn “Yield Not To Temptation.” and the refrain that says, “Ask the Savior to help you, comfort, strengthen, and keep you.” And of course these is the expression of Jesus’ compassion, “Jesus is willing to aid you! Jesus will carry you through!”
But this morning, just in case you did not wake up clearly and thus you were not able to see just how good God has been in your life, you need just a little more Jesus, just like the blind mind in the passage above. You need your eyes to be opened so you can really see the goodness of God as it has been revealed in your life. Pause for a minute my friend and ask the Savior to help you! Ask Him to help you not just see God’s goodness in terms of a generality, but rather that you can see His goodness to you with a high degree of specificity! No generality! Specificity!
I’m sure that when you finish, you will end up being uplifted and you will do what I ended up doing the other night as I lay in my bed, thinking of God’s goodness, in the middle of the night. I believe that you will start singing silently or aloud the same words that I sang in my head after reflecting on my personal experiences with the goodness of God. Yes, I think you will be singing Carneal Overton’s lyrics, “He’s been so good to me! Been so good to me! I love Him! I love Him! I love Him! I love Him! He’s been good and I love Him. He’s been good!”

Sometimes I am blind to His goodness. I’m too busy doing other things: shopping online, reading something other than the Bible, watching frivolous TV shows, or just loafing around. The fact that you sing meaningful songs with meaningful words is an inspiration to get closer to God and hear what He is saying. That is always going to be a blessing. That way I will focus more on His goodness to me.
