TRUST THE SON!

For we walk by faith, not by sight. – Hebrews 5:7 NKJV

Since Mother’s Day is fast approaching, I’ll get an early start and contrary to what the title of this meditation has been dubbed, I will sneak in a little mother story.  A mother goes to Europe to visit her son.  They travel through England, France, Italy, and Spain on a day in May, just a few years ago.  In Spain, the adventurous son, strong and fearless, talks his mother into climbing a very tall hill, perhaps it is better described as a grassy mountain.  At first the climb is easy, but there was a long way to go to the top of the mountain.  The peak was out of sight.  The mother pauses and pleads with the son to return as the steepness of the climb becomes more difficult with every step.  Looking up and unable to see the end of the climb, the mother says, “I need to rest for a minute and then climb down or even climb down.”  The son says, “Don’t give up Mom.  Trust me!”  He extends his hand and leads her to the top of the mountain.  A feeling of joy and that sense of satisfaction that comes with conquering any type of mountain overtakes the mother.  She cannot see where she’s going, but by putting her trust in her son, she was confident that she was going to make it.

As we climb this mountain in this life, characterized by varying terrain and containing a path that is up and down, we are continuously heading to the top where great things await us and will astound us, not for a mere moment, but  for an eternity.  The climb will sometimes face challenges that will try to convince us to give up or even go back.  When that happens we need to trust the Son, Jesus the Christ.  We need to take hold of His hand, walk with Him, and let Him lead us upward.  He has assured us that even though, in this godless world we will continue to experience difficulties, we can take heart because He has conquered the world.  Furthermore, He will never leave us our forsake us.

So like the mother in the story above, trust the Son, and keep pressing upward, even when you feel like you cannot make it.  Trust the Son for He will get you to your destination!  Keep in mind the Scripture above, and add to your thoughts the words below, once expressed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., substituting the word “mountain” in the place of “staircase” to inspire you on your Christian journey, both today, henceforth, and forever.  Great things await you at the top!  Be blessed!

Take the first step in faith.  You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
