“Immediately the two of them did see what’s really going on—saw themselves naked! They sewed fig leaves together as makeshift clothes for themselves. When they heard the sound of God strolling in the garden in the evening breeze, the Man and his Wife hid in the trees of the garden, hid from God. God called to the Man: “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:7-9 MSG)
During the time of cell phones and an era where even some toddlers carry smart phone in their book bags, if you are not where you are supposed to be at a certain time, you will get a call. It won’t be a call from a bill collector. You gave them your land line number so they can hear the message that informs them, “We are not able to take you call right now. But as soon as I can (That’s not a lie in your mind! You define “soon.”); as soon as I can I will return your call.” The call that you will get or have gotten, perhaps on many occasions, will come from a person, another human being who has the right and/or authority to ask you straight out, “Where are you?”
It’s Sunday morning so let me try as I often do on the day you are rising up and racing with no reluctance to worship the Lord at your church or via virtual worship. After all, you have reason to worship Him! You have a responsibility to worship Him! You have a reverence and high regard for Him! So, let me communicate the same question to you that God posed to Adam! As you read above, the question was not, “What did you do last night?” The inquiry was not, “What did you do with what I blessed you with?” The question was, “Where are you?”
Where are you? Are you on your way to church or already in that quiet place in your dwelling where you will dedicate an early portion of your day to watching an abbreviated worship service on TV? Where are you? Are you in the Scriptures? Are you already sitting in the pew awaiting the sent message from God; sent by a specific messenger for a specific purpose applicable to you?
Where are you spiritually? Where are you mentally? Where are you emotionally; down in the dumps or up rejoicing in the joy of the Lord? Where are you in the midst of all the cultural alternatives that provide you with more options on Sunday morning than when I was a child? Where are you in regards to feeling like praising the Lord for all He has done for you? Where are you? Only you can answer this question. And while this question is being communicated as it applies to every generation and each gender, notice how God held the head of the house responsible as He called out to Adam. Make sure you forward this meditation to some of the men, so called heads of the house who are chiefly responsible for their family doing the right thing today. What would is “the right thing? I believe it is joining the fellowship of the saints and not forsaking it as it is the habit of some. I want all who read this to hear the question again; hear it as being asked from God above, “Where are you?” Be blessed!
