“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 NKJV)
I have dubbed this morning’s meditation, “A Creative Sandwich.” Here is why I chose my title. As I was standing in a long, no, a very, very long line at a combo TJ Maxx and HomeGoods store located on the northside of Indianapolis, I slowly moved my shopping cart from the end of the line, located in the main aisle. It was like driving through stop-and-go traffic on a big city highway during rush hour. I persevered as I made my way through the long buyer influence aisle, or being technical, the point of purchase display lane that displays a variety of products, tempting shoppers to put one more thing in their shopping cart by impulse before getting to the register. At one point, as I pushed my shopping cart through this special lane, I slowly and steadily progressed closer to one of the cashiers manning one of multiple stations. But on the way, I saw a wall hanging, a framed poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The name of the poem on the framed hanging was “Wish.” The poem, formally called, “This Is My Wish for You,” is not an extraction directly from scripture, but it turned my attention to think of God. Being unselfish, I thought the prose I read was worth sharing with you and it will probably cause you to evaluate what you will read below by the content that you are familiar with from the Bible. Listen! This is Mark Writes. So, I still had to make sure you had something from the word of God in today’s edition. So, I sandwiched something written by one of God’s creative creatures in-between the truths from the scriptures regarding our Creator, the Lord God. That’s why I call it a “A Creative Sandwich.” Here’s the poem.
This is my wish for you: comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips. Sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being. Faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.
