A SERIOUS OBSERVATION ABOUT EXTRA ROLES

“Therefore you also must be ready, for in an hour when you least expect, the Son of Man is coming.”(Matthew 24:44 MEV)

This past weekend, “Independence Day” came on at least three days, and maybe more.  I enjoy watching some science fiction movies, so I watched this one again, again, and again, up to a certain part; the part when the visitors attack major cities and the extras are running all over the place.  When the blast came down, the extras are moving, hiding, and holding on, hoping to save their lives.  With the exception of a few in the movies, how can I put this?  How about these four words:  “The extras didn’t make it!”  Those in the extra roles in the movie, in my favorite part, experienced an unexpected death for which they were not prepared.  Now don’t think I did not have compassion.  I did have compassion for the extras in Independence Day.  But I had real compassion for real people who have not experienced independence; freedom from the wages of sin, which is death.  I did focus on the extras in the movie, but I was focused on those who have not accepted Christ as their Savior and will one day face an unannounced and unexpected doom, all because they were not free.  They were not protected!  They were not covered by the blood of Jesus!  For them, yes, I had compassion!

I’m suspecting that your faith in Christ has positioned you not to be running, like the extras described above, when Jesus comes!  I’m speculating, based on the fact that you received this meditation directly that you are a believer already and will not be running and hiding, to no avail, to avoid the penalty of sin!  However, and this is not fiction either, if you have not accepted Christ as your Savior; if you have not confessed with your mouth the Lord Jesus, believing that God raised Him from the dead, I’m supposing that if you were forwarded this meditation, marked “urgent” so you would be moved to make your way to Jesus if you really want to experience independence…ultimate freedom in the Lord!  I’m strongly encouraging you to surrender your life to Christ – today.  The truth contained in the verse above and the verses below should move you to make sure that you will not have an unnamed “extra-like” role where you won’t make it, but rather a precious, pertinent role…a speaking role!  For surely you will find yourself praising God for salvation!  Read the verses!  React appropriately, based on your spiritual standing!

Let me close by adding another serious observation about extra roles.  My youngest son has played an extra role in real life.  It paid, but it was less than “chicken scratch” compared to the premier, prestigious actors’ pay.  In your real life, make sure you are ready for a role similar to the latter.  The “pay” or “payoff” is incomparable and eternal!  Keep passing this on!  That’s your evangelical or missionary assignment for the rest of the week!  The Director is calling you; yes you, the light of the world: “Lights!  Camera!  Action!  Consider yourself “cued”!   Be blessed!  (Note:  If my “extra analogy” is not convincing enough, listen to the words of the Chief Analogist, Jesus Himself!)
