WATCH WHERE YOU SIT

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful…”(Psalm 1:1 NKJV)

In my lifetime I have sat on a park bench that was partially covered with melted chocolate and I messed up a pair of new blue jeans.  I have sat at the cafeteria table where it seemed like the conversation focused on conquest, the committing of considerable sins, or the congregating place where the non-Christians go for fun.  Such conversations, you have hear them, can cause one to lose their focus.  I have sat around the rich and famous and I never once heard them mention being grateful to God for where they were in life.  I have sat in front of the TV and watched a series of shows filled with fictional violence; unconsciously allowing my mind to be fed with seeds of sin.  And, like you, I have sat around complainers, constant pity party hosts, cheaters, and creatures made by God who cancel out any notion that they were created for certain to praise God center in on His purpose.  I have sat in the wrong terminal at the airport wondering when they were going to announce my flight I wondered why in heaven was there such a delay.  All of these examples had the potential of messing me up; much like when I was messed up after sitting on the park bench decorated in melted chocolate.  All of them had the potential of placing me spaces, where I missed the mark as I look forward to flying away to God’s celestial shore some glad morning.

You already get the point don’t you?  If not, let me state it plainly by repeating the words in the title, “Watch where you sit!”  The progression that the Psalmist warns us of is clearly stated.  We will come into contact with the wicked, described in the verse as “the ungodly,” “sinners,” and “the scornful.”  Oh we must live around the wicked and hopefully influence them to right their wrong ways.  After all, we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  Yet, we are advised to watch getting comfortable to the point we sit in the wrong place and be lead off the path of righteousness.  Watch where you sit!

Use today’s meditation to your advantage.  Let it be used to make others cognizant of the need to be cautious about where they sit.  Then, take it a step further!  Instead of remaining idle, incline yourself to follow the counsel of the Psalmist as he continues where he left off on verse one of the first Psalm.  Its written verse below!   Be blessed!

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.  He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:2-3 NKJV)
