“But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (I John 1:9 NLT Version)
The Harvard Review, in an article published in 2025 provided some helpful information related to hurrying. As I read the article, I found that there is a technical term describing the condition of those who are constantly rushing, either because of the demands of work, school, or on the negative side, due to procrastination. The article states that the term, “hurry sickness,” was first introduced in 1974 by cardiologists Meyer Friedman and R.H. Rosenman to describe the damaging effects of Type A (i.e., high achieving) behavior on cardiovascular health. “Hurry sickness isn’t a diagnosable condition, but it encapsulates a set of behaviors and emotions — impatience, chronic rushing, and a constant sense of time scarcity — that can wreak havoc on a person’s physical and mental well-being.” I’m not a cardiologist, but I will speak to the heart of the matter concerning hurrying. Hurrying does not only impact the individual who is showing signs of “hurrying sickness”, but if affects others around them who ascribe to being punctual, and even persons who go as far as to recognize that being early is actually being on time. Furthermore, hurrying can result in exposing others to situations or unseen conditions that can impact the safety of others. Pause and think about this paragraph for a moment before rushing, hurrying, to the next paragraph.
Now, let’s talk about two situations that relate to times when you want to hurry from a positive perspective. Here’s the first situation, applicable to all Christians. When it comes to you and me, believers, when we have a failing, or in other words when we fall short of the glory of God and sin, we need to hurry to repent, seek forgiveness and a cleansing from God, and then quickly get back on the narrow path of righteousness. Failure to hurry can result in drifting away from the Lord and possibly even going beyond drifting a short distance, to a drifting to a destination that is far from the peaceful shore to the point of apostasy. So, in this first situation, hurrying is a good thing. Here’s the second situation and you might find what you are about to read worth sharing with unbelievers. It is a very god type of hurrying. When the Holy Spirit is working on an individual to convict them to come to Christ, that person should be in a hurry to come to Jesus while they still have time. Hurrying beats delaying and salvation, eternal life, can be the end result.
Read the scriptures above and below to validate, substantiate my two examples. I hope this whole meditation has been beneficial to you. Have a great Tuesday! Be blessed!
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.“ (Matthew 24:44 New Revise Standard Version Updated Edition)
