“The one who says that he is in the Light and yet hates his brother or sister is in the darkness until now.” (I John 2:9 NASB)
It is Black History Month in our country, but what a misleading way to look at the contributions of so many great Black Americans; what a short period of time to recognize their past and present achievements that benefitted all mankind. I for one will not surrender to the boundary of the days of February, but nevertheless I will not forego to the chance to grab the attention of others whose interest may be heightened during this month; a month long overdue and an obvious stimulus to cause us to think of that which has been overlooked. So here is a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to think about in a Biblical context and to hopefully move you to bringing light into the darkness that plagues our world, communities, and even our family members who have strayed away from the faith that brought us this far. The quote: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
The latter part of this quote may sound like it came from a movie title or at least a melody from a love song. But it came from neither. It came from the word of God. The opening and closing verses attest to this fact and I am sure that Dr. King was being spiritual and not philosophical. Our job is to react, go beyond reading his words and the words that come from the inspiration of God. Our job is to be practical and actual perpetuators of light and love. We can do this, right? Yes, this is a short meditation today, but it incorporates some words that will go a long way in making a difference. Be blessed!
