NO FOOLIN’

Let me be honest! Monday morning, I did not wake up with my mind stayed on Jesus. I’m just being transparent. I did not wake up rejoicing because I had been blessed to see a new day. I ain’t lying, my friend. I left the house to go to the store and the post office. When I left, my mind was so focused on what I woke up thinking about, a huge hurdle, one that I was not aware of until Sunday evening. Look what I did! I drove off without my billfold. It was not until I was within blocks of my first destination when I noticed that I had forgotten it and I had to drive all the way back home. Still, I continued to focus on that huge hurdle that I had to get over. I was just going to speak in general, but I will be transparent. Sunday there was a voicemail from the CPA firm that does my taxes. I had counted on paying them their prep fee, and I had hoped to hear news about a refund and not a payment due message. However, it was the latter.

After I ran my errands, as I was driving, I talked aloud to the Lord, seeking both His comfort and a confirmation that He would help me get over the hurdle. As soon as I finished my prayer, the voice I heard in my head said, “Didn’t I tell you to stop trying so hard to work it out and trust in me?  Am I not your help?” No foolin’! Confirmation came quickly as the local radio station played a song, as if it was orchestrated by Heaven, a song that included the words, “I will help you.” Immediately, my anxiety was relieved. I was going to walk by faith. I was going to trust in the Lord to be a very present help. Therefore, I called my CPA and paid my fee for their service. I proceeded to arrange a workable payment schedule with the IRS. There was no resistance met. With my nerves settled and my mind at ease, I also did some reshuffling of scheduled Parent Student Loan payments. I’m telling you that even though I had to take some proactive steps, I am convinced that the Lord already worked it out while I was trying to figure it out.

The Lord brought to my mind some tough times when all the kids were living at home and when several of my children had cars that I purchased and I also paid the insurance costs. He also reminded me of times before I entered management in the private sector, but He proved Himself to be Jehovah-Jireh! He brought to my mind times past where I became quite familiar with paycheck to paycheck. Those were times I call, “POB4,” poor before. It was like the Lord was saying, “I brought you through this and I brought you through that so many times before. So, don’t worry about a thing right now. Be responsible, but don’t worry.”   As I am writing this meditation, sharing with you openly about my hurdle, I’m still calm and my anxiety level is absent. It’s April Fool’s Day, so they say, but guess what? I’m not foolin’!

Look! When you are down, just look up! It is like the songwriter says, “I know the Lord, He’ll make a way, somehow!” Read and meditate on the verse below! And friend, if you are ever down, do what I did. Be blessed!

“I’ look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.” (Psalm 121:1-2 The Message Bible)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King

  1. Amen, . One bible verse that I hold on to when I start to feeling worry ..Proverbs 3:5-6 (“Trust in the LORD with all your heart”).. Be Blesss.

    1. That’s a good one! It should not just be a verse that hangs on the wall of churches across the country, but it should be, as you show us, a verse that we hold in our hearts…always. Be blessed!
