PAST OCTOBER

“Pastors who do their work well should be paid well and should be highly appreciated, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.” (I Timothy 5:17 The Living Bible)

In 1992, there was an initiative launched to make this month, October, Pastor’s Appreciation Month. That was a great initiative, and I am sure that your church has already expressed appreciation to your Pastor. But even if you have done so, let me point out that the appreciation of your Pastor, as I can tell from the verse above, is not limited to a certain month, and certainly not any specific month of the year.

Your Pastor should know that you appreciate his diligent and devoted work through the year. So, let’s do something different this year. Communicate to your Pastor by emailing, messaging, or texting him your personal expression of appreciation every remaining day this week.

Think about the impact your affirming appreciation will have on your Pastor. And guess what? Even though he would not cease to do the work that he has been called by God to do, your Pastor will be lifted up and encouraged. Today, this is not so much a meditation as it is an admonition. But if you do as I ask, you, your congregation, and many others will be blessed too! Be blessed!

“Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” — Voltaire

Committed to the climb,

  1. You are absolutely correct. We can do well by expressing gratitude multiple times and ways. I may send him a gift card from his famous coffee shop….Dutch Boys. (smile)

    1. That’s an immediate response! Great example, Dr. King. The gift certificate will be appreciated. And you know what? I actually keep cooking dinner for Pastor and First Lady because I know the demands on a bi-vocational Pastor. Thank you for your example. Be blessed!

    1. The more I think about it, all who serve need positive feedback and various forms of appreciation. Thanks for your response! Be blessed!
