A euphemism is a mild, indirect, or less offensive word or expression used in place of one that might be harsh, blunt, or unpleasant. Sometimes they are jumbled up letters that don’t live up to the admonition in the church hymn that says, “Bad language disdain.”
We have all heard children who knew that bad words were not allowed in the house, so instead of violating the rules of the house as they were communicated, let’s say when watching a professional wrestling match or perhaps playing a competitive video game with a friend, instead of violating house rules, they abbreviated what had been implanted in their mind and they said, “D!”. Or we have heard people who became excited at a concert or sporting event, especially after seeing spectacular or outstanding, consciously avoid using profanity that might be offensive, and they just said, “D!”
Let me enlighten you and maybe you can educate someone else: “D” is a euphemism for a bad word. Yes, it includes the “D” word that came to your mind but follow this pattern that reveals how we should avoid the “D!” word as believers.
Disassociate is a bad word: When we withdraw from the church, a series of things will happen, in a sequential way. Keep reading! Follow the flow chart!
Disassociation from the church!
↓
Disorientation occurs, in terms of what is and what is not acceptable to God!
↓
Departure from the narrow path of righteousness happens!
↓
Deviant behavior becomes the norm; conforming to the world instead of transformed by the word of God!
↓
Dismissal of traits, characteristics that are associated with being members of royal priesthood are dismissed!
↓
Drifting further and further away from trusting in the Lord and acknowledging Him takes place!
↓
Denial of God’s blessings is a consequence!
↓
Diametrically different results happen! Instead of making disciples, you cause others to defy the Lord and His church!
Put this meditation in your desk or workspace and I guarantee it will catch the attention of somebody who needs to know that “D” is a bad word. But before I finish, let me point out that the verse below shows us that “D” is not bad in all cases. For is you want to be a Disciple of Christ, there are some “D” words that are good, not bad, for you. Be blessed!
“And He said to all, ‘If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, [forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].’” (Amplified Bible Classic Edition)
Committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
The diagrammed chart says it all. I don’t want to disassociate myself from the church or God. I will avoid the bad “D” words and deny myself to follow the Almighty God.
You are truly one of Jesus’ disciples, and you avoid the bad “D’ words very well! Praise God for you! Be blessed!
