“After He was baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and settling on Him, and behold, a voice from the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:16-17 NASB)
Staying at his auntie’s house, it was time for a little boy to go to sleep. His aunt makes him a little bed on the couch and gives her nephew a colorful, hand-knitted blanket to keep him warm. The aunt says,
“Good night! Sleep tight!” As she walks away, heading to her room for a deserved rest, the little boy calls his aunt back! “Auntie, we forgot to say our prayers!” The aunt smiles and she sweetly surrenders to the nephew’s request, and allows the boy to recite His regular good night prayer, yes, probably the one you learned when you were a little one. Hopefully, you have graduated to a more intimate nighttime talk with the Lord. Back to the story. Once again, the aunt heads, a little more hurriedly to her room and she almost makes in, but she hears the little boy’s voice summoning her again, “Auntie, I will not be able to sleep without a sheet under the hand-knitted blanket, and a soft over-blanket on top of the knitted one. I need all three!” God bless the aunt for she was much kinder and compassionate with her nephew then I probably would have been back then. To be honest, I would have probably used the patented, “Go to sleep!” phrase and layered that with, “And I don’t want to hear another word out of you, not one peep, until morning, when I call you, not the other way around, and I tell you it’s time for breakfast.” Silence would have prevailed in my world. However, the aunt did not revert to my more radical, ranting types of approaches. No, she goes and gets a small, flat bed sheet and a soft blanket and arranges it as requested. The boy needed all three and she complied, met his need.
The little boy is now a man. You want to know something? You can laugh if you want to, but listen. He still can’t have peace at night without a layer of a top sheet, a comforter in place of the hand-knitted blankets, and a soft cover! He still needs all three! Let me say it like I want to say it spellcheck, “Ain’t that something!”
Well here is another something for you to ponder on today. Let me take you from the couch to the corridors of life and proclaim to you that you are like the little boy who needs all three. Those should be your words, “I need all three!” And you can say that as often as you need to! What three do you need? You need the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit so that you will have peace today and every day going forward! You need the Almighty Father in administration! You need the Son who was God in the flesh and gave us revelation! You need the help of the Helper, the Holy Spirit to inspire you, guide you and bring to remembrance the things you have been taught from the word. Listen, you are no different than the little boy who needed all three layers to sleep and still does. When it comes to your life as a believer, as a child of God, you need to start your day realizing inwardly, in the recesses of your mind, “I need all three!” Have a great Friday! Depend on the Trinity! Rely on the Godhead! Find peace with the three -in-one God! I love you! Be blessed!
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”
2 Corinthians 13:14 NASB)
Still committed to the climb,
