“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.’” (John 1:40-42 NASB)
What I am about to share with you is a personal testimony included in a book I published, Copyright 2006. It was written by Dr. Gloria Berlnga King; yes, my wife. Here is what she had to say after hearing a message with the same title as the one used for this meditation. The text was rooted in the Apostle Paul’s sermon to the men of Athens, Acts:16:17-31, known as “Theology in a Nutshell.” See how the specific message spoken on that day by God’s sent messenger, yours truly, spoke specifically to her.
“Many Christians look at “truth” from a personal and almost selfish perspective, We place a high value on biblical truths to justify our beliefs, calm our fears, and provide unparalleled comfort. The fact is that many believers look on the “truth shall set you free” in error, taking a purely egocentric viewpoint. For example, we see how truth sets “me” free from sin. We see how the truth helps “me” stay on or return to the narrow path of righteousness. When we were first saved, we looked at the truth as it helped “me” come out of darkness into the marvelous light. “We Hold These Truths To be Self Evident” helped me look at the fact that we have been entrusted with the truth, the pearl of great value, to carry the assignment that Christ gave to us to be His witnesses. Endangered souls can be brought to safety when we value the truth from an evangelistic standpoint. How do we do it? Let me tell you how God specifically spoke to me through the preached word. It caused me to look for opportunities; casual conversations that can be invaded by “the truth.” It caused me to look for times where perpetuators of gossip can become prospects of the gospel’s benefit, or shall I say ”the truth” benefits. Finally it showed me how my dialogues with those distant from the Lord can be guided to ”the truth.”
