You never know when someone is having a dark moment and they need someone to brighten up their day. Yes, someone who needs to escape their thoughts about their concerns, their circumstances, and/or their conditions. And after escaping, they will be able to enter into that state where they can brighten up the world of someone else who is having a dark moment.
The brightness you will provide today (Notice that I did not say “can provide.” That is because you might perceive what I am saying as a mere idea, rather than a major instruction. Let me finish the thought I started.); the brightness you provide today may come in the form of a gentle greeting, or simply a soothing smile. The brightness may come from what you have on, especially if you are wearing some “witnessing attire” or you are wearing a cross around your neck. In the case of the latter, your brightness will come in the form of behaviors that correspond to the saying on your shirt or the meaning of the cross around your neck.
I have to tell ya! That was not my experience Monday morning when I went to the store. As I was approaching the entrance, a tall man was exiting wearing a white shirt that said, “Jesus is my Lord.” I was lifted up by reading the saying embossed on the shirt. The small darkness that filled my head was shooed away merely by the light conveyed by the bright words on the brother’s polo. But the lifting up and the lightening up effects were evicted, eradicated quickly when I spoke to the man and he did not look at me, did not acknowledge me by words or even a customary head nod. The small darkness, instead of being removed, it returned with a greater grip, grasping tightly my joy. Praise God that It did not last long! Why not? I’ll tell you! It did not last longe because I started thinking about God’s goodness to me and my effort to wear something out of “Heaven’s closet,” such as just realizing that I was blessed to be able to walk in the store and actually remembering what I actually came to get. No guessing this time! Smile!
Let me reiterate the sentence above, revised a little to make it personal, so that you can, out of love, bring some light into someone’s dark moment day. “Today, the brightness you provide will come in the form of a gentle greeting, or simply a soothing smile, and for sure the fact that your behavior matches your witnessing attire, the cross around your neck, or the known fact that you are a Christian, a follower of Christ.

You never know what a person is going through, especially if they are wearing a smile. As the scripture says, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” So that gentle greeting or that gentle smile will be so refreshing for someone who didn’t start their day off as well as hoped.
